Where they work:                    Zambia, Burkina Faso, Tanzania and Nigeria.                               Frequency of updates:             2 per year                                                                                  Comments:                             ACT is a Christian charity providing education for fatherless children and orphans in Africa and supporting poor widows.  More than 350 children are supported at present.  As well as paying school fees and buying necessary school items like books, clothes and shoes, ACT provides financial support for the widowed mother or guardians to provide food for the family.  Through their training programmes, ACT is working together with partners in the community to empower the widows so that they can sustain their families.  Their partners are local Christian churches or organisations who care for the poor and needy in their community. The sponsorship programme offers the opportunity for direct contact with the child where letters are exchanged.  It is also possible for sponsors to choose an indirect approach and not have any contact with the sponsored child or family.

Frequency of updates:               3 per year, including yearly photograph and progress report Comments:                              An Open Door are not involved in projects in children's villages.  They take street children off the streets, educate, feed, clothe, accommodate and love them.  They also take in many abandoned babies, who are in a dreadful state when they arrive.  Your sponsorship money goes directly to paying for the upkeep of that child.  They take the child right through their education, to University if they're able, and also provide vocational training where more suitable.
